The Sinking City is Coming to PS5 Tomorrow | Game Rant
In 2019, Frogwares released the Lovecraftian adventure game The Sinking City. And while the game earned somewhat mixed reviews, it still managed to develop a dedicated following of players. Soon The Sinking City will be getting a second lease on life, as the game will be making its next-generation debut tomorrow. Frogwares has officially announced The Sinking City PS5 release date for Friday, February 19.
Frogwares made the announcement with a new trailer for The Sinking City that compares some of the gameplay to how it looked on the PlayStation 4. As can be seen in the trailer, The Sinking City on PS5 is making some big upgrades to the game, upping the visuals to 4K resolution and hitting 60 frames per second. Unfortunately for those who already own The Sinking City on PS4 and want to check out the new next-gen features, though, Frogwares has confirmed that there will be no free upgrade.
This is unfortunate, but it’s out of the developer’s hands. Frogwares has confirmed that the ongoing legal issues with The Sinking City is preventing it from providing a free upgrade to fans. Basically, the PS4 version of The Sinking City had a different publisher and is therefore listed on the PlayStation Store with a different game ID. This makes it impossible for Frogwares to provide a normal free next-gen upgrade at this time.
Being unable to upgrade to the next-gen version for free may keep some fans of The Sinking City from trying the PS5 version of the game. However, those who haven’t played the game yet or who haven’t played its DLC may want to give it a shot. It’s been confirmed by Frogwares that, along with the graphical upgrades and PS5 DualSense support, the next-gen version of The Sinking City also includes the Merciful Madness DLC.
The Sinking City reviews were mixed, as previously stated, but some of the improvements in the next-gen version could go a long way in addressing complaints people had about the original game. Plus, people who are big into Lovecraftian mythology may be able to overlook some of The Sinking City‘s flaws and enjoy the game more than others. Others may want to wait and see if The Sinking City legal situation is ever worked out and keep their fingers crossed that there may one day be a free next-gen upgrade option available.
Meanwhile, fans of Frogwares’ games have a lot more to look forward to this year. Besides the PS5 version of The Sinking City, Frogwares is also publishing a new Sherlock Holmes game at some point in 2021 as well.
The Sinking City is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, with the PS5 version launching on February 19.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies Adding New Field Upgrade and Ammo Mod
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies got off to a strong start with Die Maschine and Firebase Z, and it seems like Treyarch is doing all it can to keep fans of the mode invested. As part of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 2, Zombies players will have some new skills to use and upgrade.
The addition of new, upgradeable skills could not come at a better time, as Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War‘s Outbreak mode will see fans getting a proper open-world Zombies experience for the first time ever. While vehicles and jump pads will make exploration fun, being able to slay the undead will be equally important, and the additions of Frenzied Guard and Shatter Blast should help with this task. A Field Upgrade and Ammo Mod respectively, players can use these upgrades in Outbreak mode and traditional Zombies Survival.
Like other Field Upgrades, players can equip Frenzied Guard from the main menu. Once activated, all Zombies in the map will target the player that is using the upgrade, with damage only being dealt to the armor of the Frenzied Guard user — leaving their health entirely intact. Frenzied Guard can be upgraded to instantly restore armor once activated, with buffs to its duration and the ability to slow all Zombies down to walking speed also available. A major plus for co-op play, teammates can simply call out if they are trapped to have a safe player lure all Zombies to them.
As for the Ammo Mod, Zombies fans will be able to attach Shatter Blast whenever they interact with a Pack-A-Punch machine. When equipped, all bullets fired will deal explosive damage, something that allows players to punch through the armor of heavy Zombies and mini bosses like the Mangler. Bullets also have the chance to explode, making for an even stronger mod. Shatter Blast’s upgrades increase the blast radius while knocking down normal Zombies, allowing for every shot to hurt an entire train of foes.
Lastly, and most importantly, two new skill tiers are being added for every upgrade in the game — giving players a reason to grind Aetherium Crystals once again. Not only will perks like Tombstone and Juggernog be made stronger with these bonus tiers, but weapon damage, field upgrades, and ammo mods will all get a boost as well. With a new Flawless Aetherium Crystal type being added as a high round and Outbreak reward, players are given a major incentive to try the open world mode and aim for high rounds in Survival.
With plenty of worthwhile crystal upgrades already available, the addition of Shatter Blast and Frenzied Guard only improve this lineup. Further, additional upgrade tiers is a huge plus for longtime players, making the launch of Season 2 even more exciting.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
